Show Me the Body are a lot of things. At their most elemental, they’re DIY hardcore punks, but the New York trio have succeeded into splintering that atom into everything from experimental noise and abrasive industrial electronic sounds to harder, tangently hip-hop beats, especially in the collaborative form. But a party band? When the world is burning, sure, why the hell not?
“Dance In The USA”, their latest single, is very much befitting of switching up the pit into the dancefloor in spite of *motions to everything*, and if they’re going to make you move, they’re going to do so with the right people involved to helping them rotate spin kicks into hip twists. Those names would be Kenneth Blume, f.k.a. Kenny Beats, and ex-punk-turned-Teddybear-and-Robyn-collaborator, Klas Åhlund, who really accentuate the way the band’s turgid bass grind pops and grooves around frontman Julian Cashwan Pratt’s dance declarations. Once they’ve got you locked in, the switch up the pace into a more familiar frenzy. At that point, you’re already in the middle of it, so you may as well two-step your way through.
