“Waltz” is as appropriate of a song title as can be for a noisy post-hardcore band like Porcelain who are circling around the drain pipe just to see if it helps to shrug the weight of the world off their shoulders. Across the five-minute-long latest preview from the Austin rockers’ sophomore album, Today’s Minor Victories, it in itself is a minorly subdued offering of decompressed chaos from the four-piece, meticulously tethering together sinewy entanglements of guitar and rhythm in synchronic, repetitive motion. Even when there’s turbulent energy shifts — and the subsequent deacceleration — the listen still someho remains locked into a circular pattern. “Sometimes I feel like shit / So tie me down to your crucifix / I am not the man that you once knew,” guitarist and vocalist Ryan Fitzgibbon sings. “Save ourselves from drowning, we’re gonna make it through.” And in that moment, you realize Porcelain’s delicate dance is critical to treading rough waters.
