“I don’t know if I really want to go out, actually,” a voice memo says in the prefacing moments of tranquility vaporizing on “Sugar in my Drink”, the lead single off Tricky FM’s sophomore album, Twin Star Fantasy. Don’t construe her words as a rejection of an invitation — it’s actually quite the opposite which the San Fran experimental electronic pop artist Hana Freed asks of you. Put your ear close to her heart, and soon, the listen explodes with breakbeat palpitations and a kaleidoscopic tapestry of pastel synths softly spangling into your synapses. “I wanna be with you / I know you love me too,” she coos in pure sweetness. “Make healthy choices for me and you / Like get sleep at night / Turn off the phone / And say sorry when i know I’m wrong.” Not everything that happens is only happening out there. Everything that means anything can happen right here, even if no one else is watching.
