Gollylagging sure do wish you all the best on your journey moving forward with “Jackknife”, even if they’re not there to see it. That’s the defeated resignation behind everything bleeding out behind the scenes on the Boston underground rockers’ latest single. Whereas this past January’s single “Bronco” did its most to avoid reminders of another through head-on calamity, “Jackknife” sits inside those same noisy walls and lets the end wash over them. “You’re gonna be a big star / You’re gonna go real far / I won’t know who you are” sings vocalist and guitarist Jake Regulbuto, as he and guitarist Jules Skiffington, bassist Joey Lorant, and drummer Andrew Garas swash back and forth their blunt instruments into a mix of gentle devastations. On one hand, there’s a certain sadness to missing out on whatever greatness finds someone else once you’re gone. On the other, there’s a sigh of relief to realizing you’re better off being apart. “I would try but could never read your mind / I won’t miss it.” Good luck, but also, good riddance.

Gollylagging’s “Jackknife” single is available now.
