A few years ago, we learned that the name Full Blown Meltdown wasn’t an understatement when the emo-punk moniker of songwriting nomad Will Green released his DIY scene standout debut, Mollify. The whole thing sounded like an anxiety attack, nervous breakdown, and existential crisis balled up into one big, hyperactive, and theatrical sing-and-mosh performance that would make its namesake-makers in PUP blush while satisfying anyone looking for a new fix on taking part in something resembling The Black Parade.
Green, who notoriously takes his sweet time detailing all of the peculiarities in his art to get it just right, has been teasing something for a minute now, and — “OhShitOhGodOhDamnOhFuck” — would you look at that? It looks like the second chapter in Full Blown Meltdown’s endless adulting panic is among us with the release of his sophomore follow-up I DON’T FUCKING GOT THIS‘ first single.
Joined in his latest freakout by producer Tony McVaney, b.n.a. ERGOtheEGO, the pair come up for air together to a world that continues crushing down its weight over your chest and culture consumed with chronic comparison, bringing out the worse in your perceptions on reality. “Lately you see even the shiniest things look like shit,” the tandem pairs off in the shout-along. “Momentary bliss! / Living for it / Keep yourself busy or you’ll notice it all makes you sick.” Amazingly, every nervous twitch in its heavy, manic pop-punk riffs, 8-bit dopamine hits, cymbal crashouts, and inner monologues squabbling are flawlessly held together, even if hanging on by a thread. The grass may be greener, but Full Blown Meltdown has made the view from the ugly, nihilistic side sound like a place to live out your best worst life.
Full Blown Meltdown’s I DON’T FUCKING GOT THIS will be self-released January 1st.
