Familiar yet oh so distant. Listening to Starcleaner Reunion has a way of unlocking images within the recesses of your head where places you may have lived before now feel alien. That transient experience comes to the foreground on “Lay On Plastic Moment”, the final preview from the dreamy NYC rock quartet’s imminently-released debut album, Umbrella. As much as the redundancies of the shoegaze revival have begun to slowly fade lately, a listen like this which angles time-shifting memories and a present day clarity perfectly in view through its tapestry of faint sonic vortexes and bent waves while vocalist Jo Roman’s navigates through the parallel universes is untouchable still in its reference points. “Feel it inside, photographic / Memories keep it alive / Wait for a better day / To come around,” she sings. Blurring the moment in past reflection, Starcleaner Reunion reveal how time is always a force of change.
