The secret is finally getting out with Starcleaner Reunion. Following a promising coupling of EPs over the years, the NYC dream-punk band will be fully revealing themselves when they release their debut album, Umbrella, this September. But first, the budding anticipation in the form of its lead single “Never Odd or Even”, which in itself plays its energy off of the emotional push-and-pull that tags along during the intimate art of secret-sharing.

Their sound is the perfect conduit for it — a weightless-bodied weaving in and out of motorik post-punk and woozy dream-pop tinted in hues of psychedelia, navigating between rushes of dopamine and crushes of darker detours. “Keep away the dissolve, keep around the mend / Had the inclination, rewire,” vocalist Jo Roman invites its release. A shake of tambourine guides it through. Once it’s out there, you can’t put it back in. Either way, it can be such a transcendent relief.
