There’s been plenty of discourse as of late about an alleged electroclash revival and something else that seems media-invented in its wake being dubbed “hyperclash”. In these pages’ based opinion, none of what’s mentioned really holds a voltage next to whatever you want to call the visceral fusion of a hardcore spinal column electrified by a heavy industrial techno intensity that is known as PUREST FORM. With the Los Angeles trio’s second extended play, RESISTANCE, on its way, its latest single “MORE” feeds fully off its title in holding nothing back and pushing every desire to the limit. “Give me the drug that feels you like you,” demands Story Beeson through a scream as guitarist and programmer Madi Woodward alongside bassist Riley Oikawa-Dahlson blast hyper-kinetic break-beats over haunted house synthesizers and acid-ravaged guitar rips. This is where the rave and the pit clash together, and PUREST FORM are doing it all at the epicenter of it all without anything beyond their own animal instincts fueling the carnage.
PUREST FORM’s RESISTANCE will be released September 4th on Dais Records.
