What exactly is modernism in rock ‘n roll in the year 2026? The title track off Perennial does its most to clear up any hearsay on the matter with the title track off their new album. To do so, the Connecticut-meets-Massachusetts punk trio deconstruct the foundation of the art of rocking and rolling fast and hard from its building block state. Electricity rips through Chad Jewitt’s guitar and Chelsea Hahn’s amp-blown organ right from its start, with drummer Ceej Wolf setting the speed-racing pace with no let-up. “It’s non-fiction / We’ve got proof / Baby, modernism’s coming for you!” Jewitt and Hahn trade-off in proclamation. Stripped down to its barebones, it turns out that when done right, the sound of the new wave is always going to be about an unbridled energy exploding from its core, keeping it feeling fashion-forward.
