Perennial – “What’s New On The Beat Scene”

It’s been a minute since punk music sounded a little absurdist and alien while still making its cultural exclamation points well known. Perennial, the mod-indebted striped tee trio of guitarist and vocalist Chad Jewett, electric organist and vocalist Chelsey Hahn, and drummer Ceej Wolf thankfully hail from the weirder parts of Western Massachusetts and Connecticut where none of that goes out of vogue, and on “What’s New On The Beat Scene” — the lead single off the band’s new album, Modernism — they let their freak flags fly wildly as their electricity melts together vintage vinyl from early rock and Motown’s most daring eras with a fresh garage punk spike in their energy. “The kids on the beat scene know exactly what they want!,” Jewett screams over howling fuzz, a squirming mellotron, and stomping rhythm. That would be kicking up some chaos on the dance floor, in case you were wondering.

Directed by: Perennial & Kicker Pictures

Perennial’s Modernism will be released September 18th on Ernest Jenning Co.
