You’re not alone in the strange feeling. Summer is definitely one of the darkest times of the year despite it being the point when we’re doused with copious daylight and sunshine that we’re supposed to make the most of. And yet, it’s as if it has this energy about it that just brings you down, leaving you stuck in place.
Lately, it feels like more artists out there sharing a similar sentiment in wanting to get away or daydreaming of being anywhere but here. CEREMONY have been living in the doldrums with these warm weather months for a longer while now, however, and even they’re still figuring out how to the contend with it all on the latest preview off their forthcoming album, Tell Me Your Dream.
“You only hit bottom when you stop digging / Dreaming of a new world all night,” Ross Farrar puts the mindset in position over an otherwise sun-soaked splendor of jangled indie-punk, officially marking yet another transformative vibe shift for the California-bred hardcore crew. It’s that eerie gothic key undertowing beneath it all that dissipates any warm and fuzzy feeling, though. “The sky couldn’t be bluer / And I hate the color blue.” Ironically, the only comfort is with each day’s passing, we’re slowly escaping it by inching ourselves closer to actual darkness.
