Wishy – “All The Rage”

“Another day / To lose count of the ways to say that / Maybe tomorrow won’t be more of the same.” That’s summertime in a nutshell for you. The sun is beaming (well, maybe not lately with all this not-at-all-climate-change-concerning Canadian wildfire smoke…,) the days are longer, and it seems like everyone around you is living their best lives with it out there with someone else. And there you are, not doing much of anything — just letting these purported best days of the year race by because you’ve got no one else to spend them with. It’s hard not to get hung up on the lonesomeness, which becomes restlessness, and eventually a blur every weekend for it.

Wishy, however, have a good idea what to do with that energy on the latest single from their sophomore effort, Nature’s Pill: channel it into “Rage,” or at least a version of it tailored to the Indiana indie-pop rockers’ style. This time around, they’re keep the fringes on the ends of it, too, with the band not being afraid to let unkempt emotions wear on in a lower fidelity, punkier spirit fit for the spite. “So fuck doing the dishes / Fuck these clothes on my floor / I don’t care anymore now that you’re gone,” Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites tandemly harmonize their defeat. At least they’re living their best lives with no one to answer to…
