“There’s a box store in a strip mall / Where I got my AC unit / It sits right here in my window in the nicest part of the year,” John Ross sets the scenery on the opening number from the Wild Pink frontman’s new album, Still Coming Down. He goes on to ramble in stream-of-conscious thought about ’90s movies while shouting out the character actor William Fichtner. I’m not sure what any of it means beyond the memory, but all around, the blazing harmonica and bar room piano built around a fuzz-blown rock anthem that’s backed by a gang of pals from the modern day indie Americana scene has a way of making the perpetual hum of said-air conditioning going on right now during this heat wave of 2026 bleed right into yesterday like we’re enjoying the view, too.
