Wild Pink – “Round Of Applause At The End Of The World”

It would make sense that every great American conspiracy theory that’s ever floated around might now be considered gospel during these end times. When the truth is whatever they want it to be, then what good is the ability to be able to discern fact from fiction? It becomes it’s own kind of mythology. They’re ripe for the takings in Wild Pink frontman John Ross’ modern day storytelling nonetheless, and his way with words through might just have written the latest chapter to be studied decades from now on the lead single from the New York indie rock band’s sixth full-length album, Still Coming Down.

He — and on this occasion, joined by band constant Dan Keegan, MJ Lenderman and his band band the Wind as well as multi-instrumental virtuoso Meg Duffy of Hand Habits — rollick through the current downward spiral of this great nation through a blistering display of Americana fireworks in country-fried riffs and distorted harmonics. Upon holding it against long tales surrounding the death of Camelot, maybe it’s something to consider that we’ve been spiraling for far much longer than just these last several years. “I don’t know / What my idea of fun is anymore,” he admits. Apparently, upending your world view will do that to you.
