“Big Life, Big Leak” easily exclamates No Joy’s phenomenal 2025 album, Bugland, as both a celebration and a goodbye of sorts. LP5 was undoubtedly the biggest late-blooming-and-yet-long-overdue breakthrough for Jasamine White-Gluz, and through the combined creative force of experimental electronic production from Angel Marcloid of Fire-Toolz — who is also experiencing her own praise this year — the Montréal post-shoegaze musician brought real nature into a vivid super-sensory display.
Though her new track and lead single off her forthcoming EP of the same name reunites her with Marcloid and fellow producer Jorge Elbrecht (Japanese Breakfast, Sky Ferreira,) consider this another big burst of energy from No Joy before her latest album chapter concludes and she ventures into the next unknown. The grief in realizing the end is here is in its words (“Great as the ocean / In the sky / Evaporate”,) but the mourning certainly is not, as the collective hyper-fixiates on that reality through an intensely bright dance-pop radiance where the joy for what is about to pass is blinding.
