It’s getting more and more difficult by the day putting into words just how well Wishy mix together their pop-heavy indie rock jam formula that places them out there on their own planet. There are only so many ways you can say it’s near-perfect. If there’s one takeaway from “Lovesick” — the lead single from the Indianapolis band’s sophomore effort, Nature’s Pill — it’s to not overthink things and just have fun with it.
This one’s got everything going for it in that regard and everything Wishy do best in catching feelings big time. Spinning fuzz rock feedback and dizzying dream-pop textures through one hook, the listen is like falling headfirst for someone at the top of the rollercoaster ride right before it goes zooming through upside loops and unexpected turns, endorphins beaming at peak bliss. “Go on, get in your car and drive / Killin’ time / Cut the shit! / Baby, you’re on fire,” Nina Pitchkites sings. Even if the point of it is for when it all comes crashing down, the anticipation for that moment will leave you stuck on a high.
Wishy’s Nature’s Pill will be released October 2nd on Winspear.
