Kareem Rahma’s Tiny Gun – “That’s So Boring”

Kareem Rahma recently met Julian Casablancas on his subway series talk show to talk some based shit, and it felt like a full circle moment for the full-time social media celebrity and part-time post-punk provocateur considering his band, Tiny Gun, probably wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for the influence of the blog rock originators and the current resurgence of the indie sleaze aesthetic which Mr. Casablancas and company birthed two decades earlier. In 2026, however, Tiny Gun are objectively making better music than the Strokes, with Rahma doing a better Casablancas than Casablancas himself (especially with all that AutoTune thrown in there.)

Shade aside, the Brooklyn band’s newest single “That’s So Boring” is self-aware enough to not want to fall prey to becoming anything but in that regard. Whereas last year’s doubling of singles “NEW YEAR NEW YORK” and “Time to Bleed” heard them batting away existential malaise on a broader level, this one does it’s most to ward off the pitfalls of meta cool clichés. Cigarettes on the lips, jeans on the hips, and watching David Lynch films while lying in bed with your lover — all quite boring. Delivered with such loathing deadpan over blistered version of dance-punk born out of the garage, this is like the boy version of “Rock Music”, except the try-hards in this case really wish they could be as cool as the things they’re shading.

Except cigarettes. Those will never be cool.
