Kelly Moran – “Sodalis (II)”

For her new album, Moves in the Field, Kelly Moran put her trust into the Yamaha Disklavier, a piano instrument that allows the artist to record and playback compositions in tandem with others being performed. The illusion is one of making a song sound like there’s more than one body behind the keys. In reality, as with the album’s latest preview “Sodalist (II)”, it’s just the NYC composer and her ideas made infinite. Originally formed as her contribution to the Field Works Ultrasonic compilation, the listen’s glassy prepared piano shimmer and outer worldly reverb now cascades in a rich magistral. Organic nature overtakes what the original concept set to conceive. In the instrument’s companionship, Moran actualizes her artist intuition.
