While a lot of the more discourse-making sad girl alternative pop music from this year has been falling off these pages’ ears as soon as they have arrived over yet another lost weekend, “Memories” suggests that beabadobee’s new album Pylon will be the one that stays a little while longer with you. Maybe its because of the underlying Title Fight factor of it all, with guitarist Shane Moran’s fingerprints being all over these songs’ fret boards. That was apparent on the album’s lead single “Sun Has Set”, and it makes itself audible again on its latest preview. Albeit, it’s a softer, dreamier version reimagined of the treacherous post-shoegaze angles designed within his former band’s Hyperview era, reappropriated here to cut through bluffs of Bea Laus’ wistful recollect. “The smell of rain on the pavement / It’s 3am and I thought of you / You’re the best, you’re my favorite / I see you in all shades of blue,” she sings. The creative team-up only gives beabadoobee her desired permanence.
