KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, the recently-released mixtape from They Are Gutting A Body of Water, has an overwhelming amount of fully amped and experimental guitar rock goodies on it, but perhaps none stack on the decibel units as heftily as “rodman”, the Philly band’s team-up with fellow shoegazing rockers and DIY scene success stories Hotline TNT. The lead-up to the listen sounds is a thing of heart-palpitating anticipation, like the pair are readying for lift-off and clocking down before firing off with a full tank of rocket fuel beneath them. TNT frontman and guitarist Will Anderson vocals becomes one with the afterburn, and with TAGABOW’s currents running into his own, it sounds like an aerodynamic fever dream designed by two out of three of the modern shoegaze scene’s most progressive forces finally becoming a reality (the third, if you must know, follows soon after in the tape when Spirit of the Beehive bend gravity waves alongside Doug Dulgarian and company on “my Happening”.)

They Are Gutting A Body of Water’s KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II is available now on ATO Records / Julia’s War.
