The opening moments of “Sound The Alarm! (Invasion Determinant)” serve up an ominous warning of impending doom: “It is now confirmed that multiple explosions are occurring frequently at the Calvin Cliffs nuclear plant. These explosions are causing a large number of possibilities, possible in the thousands,” reads an emergency protocol voice calmingly, as death and destruction chants in the background. Those chants quickly turn into the grizzled jaws of flesh-shredding once New World Man emerge from behind the curtains on the highlight from the groove-heavy metallic hardcore thrashers’ debut album, I Am the Machine.
Helmed by Mindforce guitarist Mike Shaw and featuring a shared section of membership from bands like Pain of Truth, Life’s Question, Invoke as well as former No Pressure / Regulate guy Mike Botti, their sound is one of vintage, apocalyptic horror movie violence set to the sound of bone-crushing riffs and peeling metallic solos. “Invaders gotta terminate / No time to evacuate / Fuck the devil / The liberator is here!,” shouts vocalist Ridge Rhine. By the time they’re done blowing up the local radius, the death toll climbs and what remains is but skeletons, smoking guns, and mass hysteria. It’s a wicked fun time on humanity’s way down.
New World Man’s I Am The Machine is available now on Closed Casket Activities.
