FFO: Chillin have no chill, and that’s probably what’s making the build toward the New Hampshire punk band’s debut album, High Horse, the right kind of fix you need to get you through the dopamine plummet of the dark days season.
The four-piece of vocalist and bassist Zaq Hollen, guitarist and vocalist Parker Dunlap, guitarist Matt Wilcox, and drummer Martin Harvey-Olson recently just hopped off short tours alongside Joyce Manor and Glitterer and fellow buzzy labelmates in Dream Fatigue, and of the two, the former is an apt place for them to be if you’ve been sorely missing the days when Torrance’s finest embraced the messiness of rough and rowdy punk-pop with a smart-dumb strategy à la Jawbreaker.
High Horse‘s early highlight “Forward Perpetual Motion” sets you in the right direction with that all. Smashing down chords and bashing drums in a fit of corrective uncontrol, the listen presses their face right against your own with no consideration. “Yeah, I got an issue regarding your work / Shit is so sloppy, but we did it steezy / With less effort.” It professes FFO: Chillin as slackers in the highest regard.
