Aluminum – “Distant Noise”

Lately, I’ve been spinning Iconoclast HaHa, the forthcoming sophomore effort from Buzzsound alumni and Bay Area alternative swervers Aluminum, feeling perplexed and yet appreciative of the fact that everything that was thought to be figured out about their trajectory with their debut album, Fully Beat, is neither here nor there in their present phase. Like the punkier leanings of the LP’s lead single “Killing Time”, its second preview “Distant Noise” shapeshifts once more — this time through a bleed over across spangled dream-pop, low feedback shoegaze, and heavier indie rock churns, as vocalist and bassist Ryann Gonsalves’ weightlessness in her song is the element that blends it into its own far out soft blast. “We’re not bound / To gravitate / Waves sit still / And it won’t stay.” Sometimes, it’s a relief to escape with no fixed destination in mind, and Aluminum are providing every opportunity to do so.

Aluminum’s Iconoclast HaHa will be released October 30th on Felte Records.
