Shady Bug – “seed”

Sometimes, feelings creep up on us, even when we do our best to put up a guard to prevent that from that happening. It’s a strange thing to untangle, seeing as how how the best kind of feelings can also become the worst kind of feelings, and we’re resentful toward them when they throw a wrench into our even-keeled realities. That’s what’s happening on “seed”, the second offering from Shady Bug’s new album, i wanted to be there.

Thankfully, if there ever were a band to navigate the turmoil these emotions can create inside of us, it would be the St. Louis indie rockers, who apply their stylistic polarity here in finding equilibrium between quarrelsome noise-pop and dreamy respite from that sum up the situationship at hand. “You planted a seed and now it’s spreading its roots,” sings Hannah Rainey. “I just wanna feel fine, but now it all seems so screwed.” What an ugly thing to have blossom on you when would have preferred nothing at all…
