Lifeguard guitarist Kai Slater has been on an endless roll since his solo retro-fitted power-pop project Sharp Pins broke through when the chronically cool independent K Records and their offshoot label Perennial — not to be confused with Perennial the band — re-released his album Radio DDR. That was followed in close pursuit with last year’s great Balloon Balloon Balloon and this year’s reissue of his early work, Mod Mayday 23.

Now that very mod songwriter is getting ready to release an extended play to keep his prolificity streak in tact into the new year with Electric My Icebox. It turns out we already heard an early preview of it a few months ago in the groovin’ psychedelic jam rising in “Saturday Sun”, and now we’re presented with a pining question on its second preview “How Can I Explain What She Does To Me?” The ’60s jangle-pop sprites of its predecessor carry into the air with this one, though with Slater’s lush, reverbed vocals fluttering about, the cosmically warm infatuation turns its swooning melodicism kaleidoscopic as he gets carried away in thought. The answer is all in the sound.

Sharp Pins’ Electric My Icebox will be released January 15th on K Records / Perennial.
