At the time of this writing, Anxious do not officially have anything on the horizon in the form of a new album or an EP planned for listeners, but it’s not stopping the Connecticut melodic hardcore rockers from doubling down on some new tracks to add to their live set as they’re currently touring the country this autumn as openers for labelmates Citizen alongside a varying degree of distortion pedal enthusiasts in Hotline TNT, Rocket, and Cryogeyser.

On the heels of the recent “Don’t Move”, the A-side offering “Secret Weapon” unleashes a lot of them in Anxious’ consistently solid arsenal of big hooks and deep emotions. In this instance, the heartbreak isn’t about the usual subjects people, but rather the current state of the industry of things and artists who play into it — or as guitarist and co-vocalist Dante Melucci puts it, “the weaponization of the stats and current fads to decide who you are as an artist, and who you should strive to be.

“Comb your teeth with distortion then spit when you’re bored / Working hard just to appear worth something new,” sings Grady Allen over some heavier matter in regards to the band’s continued maturation into alt-rock-riffed post-hardcore territory. Even if the machine is wired all wrong these days, Anxious’ game is running on pure intention. Hear their organic creative formula for a certifiable banger below…
