Gouge Away’s most recent (and highly recommended) album, Deep Sage, came out two years ago, and yet, 2026 feels like it’s been the biggest year so far for the post-hardcore noisemakers who nearly broke up instead over the pandemic.

It began by announcing a new label home at Run for Cover Records alongside the release of their newest single “Figurine”, and has since led to them currently stepping onto their biggest stage yet with a handful of stadium and arena dates opening for Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age Even. Before then, life on the road was already looking pretty awesome for them as they linked up with Wednesday in support of their own standout Bleeds, whose Frontwoman Karly Hartzman even went as far as to cite Christina Michelle’s harsh vocal stylings as a major influence on the country-gauzed Asheville indie rockers’ sound during its recording.

There’s more Gouge Away bleeding over and into Wednesday today as the latter has already fully merged the overlapping circles as part of the just-released deluxe edition of Bleeds. You might recall “Wasp” as being one of the more louder standouts on the listen, and it’s an objectively form-fitting choice for the Floridian-bred quintet to take on here. Christina Michelle hurls shrieks and screams and spits that deliver the sting with a pinch more assailing aggression than Hartzman’s, while her ‘mates usher in mental death with just as much volatility as the O.G swarm of sound. Rarely do covers sound like a song’s origin story, but this breaks that mold. Listen below…
