Here in the New England air, the weather is beginning to fall into a crisp coolness. The darkness feels almost comforting as it caresses your skin earlier by the minute, even if it means the end of a brighter and warmer time. For the internally goth with a penchant for the synth-pop sophisticate, this is the cusp of Boy Harsher season.

The Northampton duo’s new album and Atlantic Records debut, GET MEAN, arrives nearing the autumnal equinox, and already, the duo have tempted this fate through the dark denim look of its lead single “JEANS” and the shadow dance of “HARD BEAT”. Its latest preview, “Tough Luck (When You Don’t Call)”, is a reminder that you don’t need the light to radiate even when a love that once was is seemingly fading into the season’s void.

“And I feel possessed / When I think about your face,” Jae Matthews’ voice crawls over a backdrop of buoyant synthlines and Italo disco beat. “Do you feel regret? / Do you even know my name?,” she wonders. It’s like peering into a season of light, mourning the energy it brought you while still feeling it in your veins.
