The Biblical story of Lucifer is one of an angel who fell from the heavens and lost his wings after rejecting God’s rules as the ultimate act of rebellion. While we more commonly know this as the origin story of Satan and the advent of all of all evil-doing and vice, there’s another perspective which can be taken here illustrating the freedom to do whatever the fuck thy pleases without concern for power structures or limits that might be holding us back.

It probably isn’t that deep when listening to “Angel (On The Run)” — the latest preview from the dreamy Los Angeles trip-hop quartet 16 Underground’s forthcoming EP, Without a Trace — but the salve of independence can be heard in the listen tranquilizing its escape from whatever over an alluring elixir of seductive beats and honey-sweet invitations. “Under a new moon / Over the night sky / Within the confines / Outside a skewed mind / On the run,” coos vocalist Hannah Campbell. It’s not temptation. It’s simply salvation.
