In 2026, a certain strain of lo-fi, eggy garage-punk is all the rage thanks to labels like K Records, its offshoot Perennial, and Feel It Records. The Philadelphia four-piece MESH come courtesy of the latter, and while their first release in their eponymous EP came out back in 2021, they’ve picked the right moment to arrive with their debut full-length, No Fun At All. First and foremost, if you’re coming in ear-blind to them, then you should know that they are absolute liars about that title, because its latest preview “Atrophy” is anything but lacking in energy. Guitarists Allison Durham (a 12-stringer at that…) and Sims Hardin put every strike of a chord to work, spiking heart rates and nerve endings, while the band’s rhythm section in Tom Riese and drummer Steve Darling keep the momentum above rising. “Dreams atrophy / Dreams you said to me,” Durham sings, recounting a past life with another, and yet just those thoughts alone can spark something that makes the memory grow stronger.
