Returning to his own autonomy has been the move for Channel Tres. The dance house moniker of Compton multi-threat Jerome Young came in hot to the beat several years behind the strength of a coupling of EPs during the O.G. era of the experimental boutique Godmode Music before he landed on a major label for RCA Records with his criminally delayed 2024 debut full-length, Head Rush.

The industry of it all only got in the way of his momentum, but now that he’s grinding his way back to the top through the independent circuit back on his own timeline while reuniting with original producer Nick Sylvester, Tres is back in his pocket of making deliriously fun, swaggering dance music.

Following that “Pop Pop” earlier this warm weather season, his latest, “Black Techno Guy”, is absolutely unserious and confident at once. The meta listen’s purpose is simple: push adrenaline levels up in the club while flexing on style in its sound’s finessing of a hyperactive pulse directing aerodynamic strings through the air around you. As with all things pointedly on fashion-forward right now, it takes its cues from the late ’90s electronic DNA form with its own identity all over it. You really can’t miss him.
