Ela Minus looks out at our world and has this uncanny ability to turn even the most trying of times into an energy that gives you reason worth moving your body forward to in spite of the void oncoming. In collaboration, she expands on that. Akin to ♡ , her 2022 EP with DJ Python, the Colombia-by-way-of-Brooklyn producer is again bringing new forms in her sound in a synergy with Miami-based electronic producer Nick León for their forthcoming three-track EP, qué les pasó a mis amigos? It first single “espiral” is indeed a collision of worlds as the pair bridges Minus’ cold, dystopic dance floor with León’s tropical heat. “Lo di todo / Lo doy todo / Por salir” — or “I gave it my all / I’m giving it my all / Just to get out –she sings, against commandeering her own fate even if everything is chaos. In this instance, they make you wonder which way the spiral goes.
