Quicksand – “Cool Guy”

Hardcore. The scene loves drama! While its band and their members may get older, the heavy drags never stop, and “Cool Guy” — the latest preview from post-hardcore heroes Quicksand’s new album, Bring On The Psychics — really has it out someone.

Based on frontman Walter Schreifels’ descriptor of the dude who brings everyone down when they’re around and is a total try-hard, it could be just about anyone. They’re at every show — probably missing all of the opening acts just so they can wait in line to score limited merch that they’ll parade out on their IGs before flipping on Deepop, and then go annoyingly extra hard in the pit once the headliners start.

Or maybe we’re all just hypocrites who think we’re more righteous than the next person to live the lives we live? “It could be me when I reflect / But it probably isn’t.” Alas, there’s a fine line separating the unbearable main character and minding your own business out loud, which it should be noted, Quicksand are doing their damnedest (and very well, at that, with big muscular flexes in the riffs) in spite of this very uncool guy’s antics.
