If you see Restraining Order coming your way while you’ve got a book in your hands, that’s your cue to book it in the opposite direction. Whereas their cross-state scene peers in Haywire may be exacting vengeance against bullies in clay form, the Western Mass hardcore punk band become the bullies themselves in the music video for “Used Love”, a highlight from last year’s scene listmaking album, Future Fortune. But sometimes a good bout of physically harmless bullying is exactly what’s needed, especially in the age of faux intellectualism where many a snob use the book as their cover to hide what’s really going on between the pages in order to deflect being found out. Armed with a retro boombox and the uncanny ability to sniff out a bookworm (even in a porta potty of all places…,) not even the classics are safe from getting a shouting to.
