They Are Gutting A Body of Water feat. Horse Jumper of Love – “charter spec”

The single artwork for They Are Gutting A Body of Water's "charter spec".

“Desire stretched across the view / I am the tool that my dreams use / To turn me on,” sings Doug Dulgarian on “charter spec”, the latest from They Are Gutting A Body of Water in collaboration with marginally noise-gauzed peers Horse Jumper of Love. If there’s anything we learned last year from the Philly band’s listmaking ATO Records debut, LOTTO, it’s that they can do just that with our listening experiences just as well, as their post-shoegaze form very much leveled up to the moment, rocking loud and rocking heavily in their focal pocket. In this instance, the team-up here across its three-minute span blurs by like seconds. That’s a reflection of each artists’ strengths melding seamlessly into one texture — TAGABOW’s turbulently rips meeting HJoL’s melancholic drifts conjured by vocalist Dimitri Giannopoulos. “Still face of the lake right now / Best reflects above.” The static is glimmering.
