If there were a term to use to describe Nyxy Nyx’s creative release project, it would be chaotic good. No, no, not in the sketchy high end digital music marketing sense, but rather that the Philly underground experimental rockers have this way of putting new music out in the world with zero premeditative plans or build behind it. Their first “proper” album and buzzy breakthrough, Cult Classics Vol. 1, was probably the closest thing they’d come to with that, and that’s likely on Julia’s War for that.
Since then, Nyxy Nyx have dropped a whole new mini album and singles on their Bandcamp out of thin air just as fast they’ve since disappeared. For now, there’s an another ominous presence in the world this week with the release of their latest loosie, “Concerning Evil Spirits”. Origined on a since-expired IG story as “half a song, just a demo really, but there’s potential,” the listen hears frontman Brian Reichert conversing with that bad energy on a different plane than the noisism of past work, as the band’s sonic confrontation with all that’s horrendous nullifies their doings through a tranquilizing lullaby filled with resonant feedback and vocals seeking out the spirits on their own ground. Talk with the evil beyond from Nyxy Nyx’s vantage point below…
