Jessica Pratt – “World on a String”

There’s a part of you that probably turns to Jessica Pratt whenever you need to recapture that feeling of a lost youth. The Los Angeles-based songwriter’s voice harrows something warm yet clandestine, transcendent through time whenever sweeping gentle arrangements of guitar strums, timpani, and glockenspiel around her evocative vocal arrangements, making you feel like you’ve lived some past life born out of 1960s California, but the air still breathes as fresh as ever today in its haze. With “World on a String”, you are that person, heart filled with courage and dancing on the Earth, light as a feather and bewitched by her gaze. “I want to be the sunlight of the century / I want to be a vestige of our senses free,” she sings. The lust for a life more innocent dangles through her song for just a few moments, but it’s as if it will stay with you forever even when it fades into an echo.
