Marbled Eye – “See It Too”

“See It Too” is song about starting your own path and seeing it through, and Marbled Eye have been challenged to do so since their debut album, Leisure, landed half a decade ago. Since then, they’ve incurred the departure of their original bassist, Andrew Oswald, a pandemic that stumped their creative process, and figuring out what their next move as a band would be. You could say the Oakland-based post-punks have landed firmly on their feet, with that stopgap working in their favor. Now signed to the Run for Cover Records imprint Summer Shade as well as Digital Regress for their sophomore follow-up, Read The Air, the four-piece of guitarist and vocalist Chris Natividad, guitarist Michael Lucero, new bassist Ronnie Portugal, and drummer Alex Shen are getting further by letting fate lead them through a style of weed-goth interiors that swerve around gravity ever so slightly though a walking life, recalling the stoner waves of departed scene spirits Creative Adult and the meandering melodies of Deerhunter. “How did we end up down here? / Is there really only one way out?,” Nativadad asks at one point. Whatever energy is calling them, its parts unknown end destination is far more interesting than they’d likely have expected.
