Empress Of, the experimental pop moniker of Los Angeles-based songwriter Lorely Rodriguez, has colored her sound through a prism since her arrival in 2011. With her new single, “Femenine”, Rodriguez has arguably arrived at a moment where every color, movement, and wave of energy has coalesced perfectly within her aura. Not only does the listen feel wholly to her identity, embracing not only her Honduran-American background in the first all-Spanish glimpse into her forthcoming fourth studio effort, but deconstructing typical heteronormative lyrical structures in lusty pop music. “Quiero un hombre femenine / Un latine / Que baile pa mi / Y solo pa mi.” The vibe shift feels fitted in her passion play through an orb of effervescent techno-house production styled by Godmode co-founder and producer Nick Sylvester (Channel Tres, ISOLA, Yaeji.) Complimented visually in the Euphoria hues, glitter, and body talk of director and choreographer, Ryan Heffington, “Femenine” puts the full Empress Of mystique together.
