LAPÊCHE – “Christmastime” (Smashing Pumpkins Cover)

Tonight on abc, Gen-Xers may be wondering what kind of weird, warped timeline they’ve stumbled upon in 2023 as they witness the sight of jolly ol’ Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins taking part in this year’s Disney Holiday Celebration special, which will hear the alternative rock veterans putting their cherub rock sound on the yuletide standard, “Silver Bells”. That should be fun! For those who want to remember the band’s less traditional contributions to the holiday season, however, the dreamy Brooklyn post-punk trio LAPÊCHE have got you covered with a literal cover of the Pumpkins’ melancholy original and infinitely more radder, “Christmastime”, which originally appeared on the star-studded 1997 charity compilation, A Very Special Christmas 3. Glazed in a warm blanket of alt-rock fuzz, the ominous jingle of sleigh bells, and guitarist Krista Holly Diem delivering its chorus like the warning it was intended, LAPÊCHE let you know that whether you like it or not, ’tis the season in all its dark, magical winter wonderland aura.

LAPÊCHE’s “Christmastime” single is available now.
