Glitterer – “Plastic”

Glitterer has been known as the solo outlet of Ned Russin born out of DIY spaces, giving the hardcore-indie rock project a very homespun sound you could imagine being written by just one guy isolated in his bedroom with a guitar, drum machine, and a rabbit hole of thoughts. Now that the project has as many full-length releases under its belt as Russin’s hiatused band, Title Fight, he’s going the route of full realization leading up to the release of its fourth album, Rationale, which sees Glitterer filling in the room’s open corners with the additions of keyboardist Nicole Dao, guitarist Connor Morin, and drummer Jonas Farah. “Plastic”, its lead single, bold lines the blueprint Russin has drawn up: electric guitar riffs more resoundingly grungier, synths shining violently, and live drums pounding a different force of energy behind his existential musings. “Anything / That’s everything / Ends up in landfills over time,” he sings at one point. The digital decay of what came before with Glitterer at least prolongs its shelf life in the band’s ongoing plasticity.
