“This is what you missed while you were on your knees praying!,” shouts Dan Yemin in the early moments of “Dominion”, the second single from the Philly post-hardcore band’s first new release in a decade with Famine. And a decade has surely been more than enough time for their fury over thoughts-and-prayers culture in the face of a world burning down to stew in the vat of the void. It comes to a boiling point here where Yemin’s damnation toward those looking to exploit our world by weaponizing religion to do so makes for the perfect catalyst behind the band’s melodic aggravation. Maybe on this Earth, these politicians and persons of power believe they’re promised a righteous paradise. Paint It Black’s judgement points to their path going in a different direction…
