Recommended Album: Alvvays – ‘Blue Rev’

Blue Rev is the execution in how you make a dream pop in vivid, singular display. The third full-length album from the Toronto indie quartet establishes what we’ve already known since 2014′s promising, assured guitar-pop display of a self-titled and 2017′s more refined sophomore follow-up, Antisocialites, that when the chemistry between color, texture, sound and emotion hit at just the right angle, it piques the senses inside and out in a way which makes you feel like you’ve tapped into another dimension or gravity, not unlike past luminaries of a similar light such as My Bloody Valentine and Broadcast. Alvvays continue to pull in the personal through their medium, however, with vocalist Molly Rankin diving even deeper into internal monologs involving lovers quarrels, poseurs, trolls, and the self. It’s a refinement in harmony between melody and bursts in their vision, revealing a depth to their sound which can only be their own hue.

Highlights: “Pharmacist”, “Very Online Guy”, “Velveteen”

Alvvays’ Blue Rev is available now on Polyvinyl Records.
