/ Felt like a deadly lit candle left up in a room,” observes Stella Donnelly on “How Was Your Day?”, the latest preview from her sophomore effort, Flood, and thus presses on the conversation that’s been avoidant. Behind the Australian songwriter’s bright, busy soft indie rock pallet, her words are sharp to force the subject to the surface. Two people entwined with one heavy disconnect. The stress is palpable in her hurried sing-talking, yet each verse retreats when it becomes apparent someone has to make a move.
