Recommended EP: SPEED – ‘GANG CALLED SPEED’

The answer as to how fast hardcore’s game will evolve is but one word: SPEED. Sometimes it takes a group of outsiders to be that change, and because the band are far removed physically from the scene’s central roots here in the States – they hail from Sydney, Australia – their vantage point on a certain sound and fury comes from a different perspective.

On their breakthrough EP, GANG CALLED SPEED, that’s most apparent in their fast approach on NYC’s gritty past, Los Angeles current fault lines, and whatever is wilding out of Baltimore with hard-grooved riffs, and vocalist Jem Siow’s nasty charge into the pit. “Another Toy” guerilla presses toxic masculinity straight out of the pit and “Move” calls to embrace diversity, which isn’t just some virtue signal bullshit since the band made up of mostly Asian members knows the bullshit a lack there of presents. You’re either with this gang or against them, and by the sounds of it, they’re quickly gaining numbers on their side…

Highlights: “Another Toy”, “Move”, “Big Bite”

SPEED’s GANG CALLED SPEED Is available now on Flatspot Records / Last Ride Records.
