After announcing their return as a band following a decade’s long hiatus with a reunion tour and first new music in just as long with the hypnotic waves of “Blacklight Shine”, the Mars Volta are definitely up to something bigger with the arrival of another one, “Graveyard Love”. Though Cedrick Bixler-Zavalva and Omar Rodríguez-López wilder creative tendencies are not taken for granted, this listen is arguably one of the duo’s more refreshingly straight-forward designs venturing into spacey prog-rock with far out synths zig and zagging over mathematical constellations.
The Mars Volta’s “Graveyard Love” is available now on Clouds Hill.
