Friko have been going places ever since breaking out of Chicago’s Hallogallow scene and pondering Where we’ve been, Where we go from here with their standout 2024 debut. It’s all moving so fast for a young band with all the steam behind them, and “Choo Choo”, the second single from the quartet’s sophomore follow-up, Something Worth Waiting For, rides with that come-fast feeling.

At the conductor’s helm is vocalist vocalist and guitarist Niko Kapetan contending with a battle between his desire to relish the moment and escape the rat race of it all by imagining being anywhere but stuck on the interstate. “I wish I took the train today / Yes, I wish I took it almost every day,” he sings, as the listen chugs along in an upward tick of momentum before turning into a full-on thrill ride. “Trying not to look away when I’m in a rut / But New York to LA isn’t long enough.” There’s no stops on this track and they’re a long way from home, but with drummer Bailey Minzenberger, guitarist Korgan Robb, and bassist David Fuller keeping speed behind him, he’s at least in good company in the whirlwind feeling.
