There are many instances in life where you are going to come across people who are in healthy, happy relationships and would otherwise be a walking disaster if it weren’t for them. That can be kind of frustrating to contend with if you’re single and have your shit together, but maybe that’s just the universe’s way of keeping checks and balances: those people don’t end up becoming fuck-ups who the rest of the world have to deal with while you can handle being alone just fine.
Patrick Kindlon seems to think he’s one of the former on “Pynch”, a new single from alternative hardcore bastards Drug Church, and that tracks. Dude’s got the brain of a chronic overthinker with no filter, and if it weren’t for the punk music career on top of it, who knows what kind of trouble his head would lead him down. Still, he just can’t help himself from staring down the void, even if he knows he’s lucky. “We’re gonna die either way, I assure you / Stuffed in shiny boxes of pine,” he hails. “50 years and we’re food for worms / All matter’s just a matter of time.” Until that time comes, he’s embracing the love in his own love language: screaming at it through a blistering post-hardcore anthem.
