Nothing – “never come never morning”

The road to a short history of decay ends with the beginning. As the opening track from Nothing’s imminent fifth studio album, we’re hearing a side of sound from the Philly post-shoegazers that catches you off guard, considering the turbulent breakbeats and harp-stringed, funereal balladry that preceded it in loud-heavy form. This listen speckles the album’s first scene with a wrer, quieter celestial symphony of acoustic guitars, borealis echoes, and even a horn marching across their sky triumphantly. Still, the beauty here is in how the band builds up the perfect view up only to watch it fall apart right in front of you. “When I was young / Life was easy,” quivers Domenic Palermo. The ache in his voice is the kind that makes you wish you never saw any of it at all.
