If the origins have been retraced correctly, the Venn diagram between Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry stems back to both being main stage highlights at least year’s Outbreak Fest, which means that in all likeliness, it was thousands of miles away and across the pond where the modern metalcore heavyweights conceived an idea to work with one of the hardest alternative rappers in the game before bringing it all back home to Louisville. That’s the beauty of what crossing over into the hardcore community can do.
Now that Knocked Loose are far enough removed from their own mainstream crossover in You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To and plenty of new converts have become initiated into their pit, we’re getting our first head check in what potential limits they’re looking to push further out next in the tag team’s creative collision, “Hive Mind”. Scratched vinyl with blastbeats being cooled down to a chill beat are disruptors to Knocked Loose’s monstrous bedlam, and for his part, Curry’s bars are giving 2000s nü-metal-rap mashup flashbacks in a freakishly better way. This might be the only time you hear somebody crucifying blind faith followers that “wanna ride dick” in a Knocked Loose song. It’s outside both sides’ broader zones regardless, and a great way shake off any fairweather trend-hoppers they’ve picked up along the way.
